Assistant General Manager - Fine Dining Restaurant

Alfred’s Steakhouse, an iconic San Francisco restaurant, is preparing to re-open and bring back a successful format to deliver top-notch steaks and service.  We’re hiring a career-minded Assistant General Manager to help make it all happen!  You’ll be a critical part of the team and be responsible for assisting the General Manager with the efficient and profitable running of the restaurant.  Open nightly in the Financial District, we cater to upscale diners with a taste for excellent food and a decadent ambience.  With decades in the business, Alfred’s Steakhouse is a San Francisco tradition with a 140-seat dining room, banquet facilities and a decadent bar.
The Assistant General Manager contributes to the planning, organization, and training necessary to achieve restaurant objectives in food quality and consistency, guest satisfaction, sales, managing costs, hiring and retaining employees, communication, marketing, and compliance.  You will be responsible for opening/closing and running the restaurant on the General Manager’s days off.  We offer a challenging opportunity to bring back a San Francisco gem, build something great and have a successful career.
To be successful in this role, we’re looking for someone that has the following experience and traits:
  • 10+ years of FOH and BOH experience with experience in a manager or leadership role
  • Versatility - must be able to jump in and help at the bar, kitchen or wherever if needed
  • Professional with a welcoming presence and the ability to work the floor - engage with customers, build relationships and resolve issues
  • Self-starter that takes the initiative to work efficiently, professionally and thoroughly
  • Strong attention to detail in all aspects – presentation, reporting, food service and customer satisfaction
  • Ability to train, motivate and lead teams to ensure excellence and consistency
  • Experience promoting, pricing, negotiating and running parties and banquets for up to 60 people
  • Marketing abilities including updating and engaging with customers on social media - Facebook, Instagram, Yelp, etc.
  • Technically savvy with strong POS and Excel experience
  • Must be able to easily navigate stairs as we have two banquet rooms upstairs and two downstairs
  • Mechanically inclined to handle small repairs and maintain the physical assets of the restaurant
  • Sincere, ambitious, hard-working and capable of having fun at the same time
  • Excellent organization, time management and planning skills
  • General Human Resource and labor law knowledge; CA Food Handler's Card
  • Relationship builder in the community and hotels to grow nightly dining and event business
  • Must be local to the San Francisco Bay Area
  • Bachelor’s Degree and /or Culinary degree preferred

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk and/or hear.  the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger or handle objects or the telephone.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10-25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
